"It used to be that the barbershop wasn't just a place to get a haircut or shave; it was the hub of the community — where people came together to bond, socialize and exchange ideas."

In Detroit, The Social Club is bringing this very idea back to life by hosting Shop Talk events where inspirational entrepreneurs speak to a crowd while receiving a haircut. We partnered with Sebastian Jackson, founder of The Social Club, to bring this social movement to Shinola stores, starting in Detroit this past weekend with speakers Casey Gerald, cofounder and CEO of MBAs Across America and Jeff Staple, founder of Staple Design and Reed Space

"These are either up-and-coming entrepreneurs looking to change the game or people who have already change the game," Jackson says. "Every event will have new speakers."

View some highlights from the Detroit Shop Talk below and stay tuned for the next event.

"By the time I got to Harvard Business School I didn’t really buy into this notion that experts had the answers that I was looking for. But what I’ve found is that there are really no excuses for the suffering that people are enduring across the country, and when I think about the lesson that we’ve learned from Detroit it’s that ordinary people placed in extraordinary odds have unbelievable abilities to prove the impossible, possible." -Casey Gerald

Jeff Staple speaks as Casey Gerald and Sebastian Jackson listen intently.

"I notice that a lot of young people are concerned with making other people in their lives happy without first making themselves happy. It’s impossible to make others happy when you yourself are not working to make yourself happy. You have to get yourself right and then you can start figuring out everyone around you." -Jeff Staple
