Mother's Day: Celebrating The Women In Our Lives

People

April 17, 2018

Moms. They fight to do it all and do it well.

They make you eat your vegetables, help you solve your problems and tell it like it is—sugar coating is not in their vocabulary.

Why? Because they said so.

Every Mother's Day, we pay homage to the mother figures who've helped raise us, shaping us into the people we are today.

Here at Shinola, we believe quality relationships are every bit as important as quality products. To the wonderful women we know and love: thank you.

Kamron Bijeh-Apple, Head of Brand Training, on his mom's personality:

“She’s a free spirit. She’s always picked happiness over whatever society measures to be quality of life. Nothing holds her down.”

Tae-Aunna Schumake, Supervisor of Watch Production, on what it's like to be a mother:

“To be a mom, it’s the next level in life. It helps you mature, it helps you look at life different, make decisions different and it’s a bigger responsibility. It’s kind of like a permanent job, but a job you enjoy.”

Katie Gagliardi, Pattern and Sample Maker, on what it's like to be a mother:

“She has the best sense of humor, I can’t even believe it. She’s a total sweetheart and she is the boss of everyone she encounters."

Robert Berry, Leather Artisan , on his relationship with his mother:

“My relationship with my mom is a real big thing for me, there’s not a day I don’t call her, there’s not a day I don’t see her.”

Carla Carr, VP of Leather, on her mother's personality:

“She’s always been creative, so she’s always pushed me and my sisters to be creative. We’re not scared to take something on.”

Larry Sanders, Audio Operations Team Lead, on his mother's love:

“My mom is my world. She was a very nice person, miss her to death. That was my rock. I’m at peace with it, but she’s always right here in my mind.”

Tiffany Daniel, HR Business Partner, on being a mother of two boys:

“They are just so funny and they’re best friends—they are creative and surprise me every day with something they’ve learned, something they’ve come up with.”

Shannon Washburn, President of Shinola, on her mother's love:

“I always looked up to her. She was strong, she was kind, she was passionate. She could do so much, but she was always there for us."

Christina Chen, Director of Marketing, on learning from her mother:

“My mom worked 12 hour days, 7 days a week. That’s where I get my work ethic. Both of my parents taught me to work hard and play hard—which is not good, because when I do something great, I spend a lot of money.”

Martyna Alexander, Senior Digital Designer, on her mother's personality:

"My mom is probably one of my biggest role models, she's one of the hardest working people I know-super motivated. She can put her mind to anything and she'll get it done."

Christina Stilianos, Merchant, on her relationship with her mother:

"I have a very close relationship with my mom. We spend a lot of time cooking, shopping and eating together-emphasis on the eating. My mom makes an amazing spanakopita, it's just spinach pie. She has her own recipe for everything."
