A JOURNAL BY SHINOLA DEDICATED TO JOY OF CRAFT

#LoveMyCity Toronto with Ace Hill Beer

BY Taylor Rebhan

Ace Hill is a Toronto-based beer company focused on quality and simplicity. The brand, started by a group of local friends with brewing, hospitality and startup backgrounds, has made a name for their flagship Pilsner and dedication to craft. We asked the founders of Ace Hill to show us some of their top spots in town. #LoveMyCity

“Toronto is an amazing city. It’s safe, it’s beautiful, it’s diverse,” says Ace Hill Co-Founder Mike Wagman. “Working at a beer company, we like to do fun stuff in the creative and cultural communities, and really like to take advantage of Toronto’s world-class food scene.”

Below are a some highlights from a typical few days with Ace Hill Beer.

East Room: “This is East Room, as the DJ gets set up on Friday evening. During the day, this impressive loft building in Riverside is a co-working space for creative types, decorated with antiques from the store downstairs with the same owners. At night, they host music events and other cultural parties.”

Parts & Labour Restaurant: “Always a highlight for our team: good food and good friends at Parts & Labour in Parkdale. With vibrant food from chef Matty Matheson and eclectic loud music, it’s home base for good times on a Saturday night.”

St. Lawrence Market: “A Saturday morning stroll through St. Lawrence Market is a refreshing way to kick off the weekend.  With a large variety of local vendors, it’s our go-to spot for grabbing fresh fish and meats for summertime BBQs.”

Muskoka: “Weekend getaways are an extended part of Toronto’s culture in the summer. This is our friend’s guest cabin at his cottage in Muskoka. If you head up on Sunday, you beat traffic and get to spend Monday on the lake. Nature is a beloved part of our brand. We use only natural ingredients in our beer and donate 1% of sales to local clean water causes.”

Bar Raval (their famous Tomato Bread is pictured above): “Weekend adventures usually require a stop at Bar Raval on College Street. It’s a stunning Spanish tapas bar in the heart of Little Italy. The scene is always buzzing and it’s one of our absolute favorite places for a snack and an ice cold Ace Hill.”

Kensington Market: “Stumbling around Kensington Market on Sunday morning is a treat. There’s a ton of fresh produce, ethnic food stands, and other little shops to explore and grab snacks from. Pedestrian-only streets are an added bonus on Sundays in the summer.”
