A JOURNAL BY SHINOLA DEDICATED TO JOY OF CRAFT

#LoveMyCity DTLA with Maricel Sison

BY Taylor Rebhan

The opening of our new DTLA location marks the sixth Shinola store in California. We asked local photographer and self-proclaimed foodie Maricel Sison to share some of her favorite spots and in our new hood. #LoveMyCity

“Los Angeles has transformed itself quickly over the years. The arts, food and culture has blossomed,” Maricel says. “I love the diversity and soul of what makes up LA, but what I especially love is how much the culinary scene has become one of the best in the world. You can always learn about the make of a society through their food.”

This mural was made as a collaboration between El Mac, Augustine Kofie and Joseph Manuel Montalvo at the American Hotel in the Arts District. Murals are constantly repainted throughout the Arts District, and this one is walkable from the Shinola store.

G&B Coffee inside Grand Central Market: “If you’re looking for somewhere that hosts the best of everything to eat in one place, it’s Grand Central Market,” says Maricel.

“You can find everything from Belcampo Meat Co., to the infamous Eggslut, and one of my favorite go to coffee shops, G&B coffee. It’s the perfect place to grab a cup of coffee, small bite to go, and their almond macadamia lattes are my fave.”

Chego is Chef Roy Choi’s first sit-down brick-and-mortar in Los Angeles. His aim was to make tasty food without breaking the bank, which is why Angelenos flock to this Chinatown gem. There’s so much flavor in every bite and it represents the soul of the people of LA.”

“The Arts District has changed so much over the years, and Pie Hole was one if its first residents during its evolution. Locals and visitors alike can’t help but stop in while they take a stroll and admire the walls.”

Maricel wears a Runwell 36mm at Pie Hole: “I, myself, stop in for a slice of pie frequently. If you want to satisfy that dessert craving to accompany your cappuccino, or feel like trying one of their savory pies, mine being the mac and cheese hand pie, this is the place for you.”

Happy Hour menu tacos, burger and cocktails from Eat, Drink, Americano

Eat, Drink, Americano is one of those spots where you can sit on the comfy couch and enjoy happy hour with friends. The aesthetics are a bonus, but the food and drinks are so complimentary to a good time. It’s located in the heart of the sprawling arts district and is a walk away from the new Shinola store.”
