How to #MyShinola with Hayden Stinebaugh

BY Taylor Rebhan

#MyShinola is one of the ways we get to view our watches in action after they’ve left our factory. Show us where your timepiece has traveled by tagging your photos with #MyShinola on Instagram and Twitter, and we’ll repost our favorites to our own channels. To give you some inspiration, we asked Detroit-based photographer Hayden Stinebaugh to share some tips for the perfect photo.

1. For the best possible shot, think like a photographer and play on the Rule of Thirds. If you have an iPhone, turn on grid lines by going under Settings > Photos & Camera > Grid

2. If you’re not a grid person, just make sure to turn your wrist or adjust your timepiece to find the best angle that emphasizes your watch’s features.

3. Lighting is key. Find a bright spot to achieve a sharp and focused image that doesn’t wash your watch out. Don’t be afraid to showcase your style.

4. We love to see where you are, but consider the background of your picture when you snap to make sure it’s free of distractions, labels and other advertisements. Using the outdoors is always a captivating approach. The photo above features the Canfield with the Ambassador Bridge.
