A JOURNAL BY SHINOLA DEDICATED TO JOY OF CRAFT

Gift Giving with Fox Fodder Farm

BY Taylor Rebhan

What do you love most about your significant other? We asked one of our favorite Brooklyn couples that very question —Taylor Patterson, the florist behind Fox Fodder Farm, and Sam Anderson, the beverage director at Mission Chinese Food. Sam recently surprised Taylor with some pieces from the Shinola Jewelry Valentine’s Day Collection. View some of our favorite moments and read about what they love most about each other in the interview below.

What do you love most about the Shinola jewelry that you gifted Taylor?

Sam: I like the refined yet casual look of the Pamela Love pieces; they aren’t gaudy or trying too hard which makes them cool.

What do you love most about the Shinola jewelry that you received from Sam?

Taylor: I love the simplicity and the everyday wearability of them. I feel I can wear these while working.

How long have you been in a relationship and what do you love most about the other person?

Sam: Since last summer. I love Taylor as a person in her entirety; some of my favorite things about her are her kindness, her ambition and forward-thinking.

Taylor: A friend set us up about 6 months ago. Sam is probably one of the most well-intentioned and genuine people I know. He also has a really healthy and elevated sense of self-discipline and drive, which is really inspiring. He also just happens to be super handsome.

Describe your personal style and why these Shinola jewelry pieces fit into your style.

Taylor: My style is pretty straightforward. I like things that are well-designed, well-made and versatile. I’m usually running from the flower market, to an install, to a meeting, to dinner, and so whatever I wear needs to work for all of those things. I like that these jewelry pieces can fit into all of that. Beautiful designs that elevate, but that aren’t too precious.

Valentine’s Day is a great way to recognize your significant other, but what are some other ways or small romantic gestures you do for one another on a non-holiday?

Sam: I love to make dinner for her. Or surprise her. Surprises of any type are very romantic.

Taylor: We try to surprise each other with fun activities around the city or mini trips when we both have a couple days off. We have really opposite work schedules, so we try to make our time together fun. It always feels fun though no matter what we’re doing.
