Father’s Day Hints

BY Taylor Rebhan

Cheers to the men in our lives who have loved and mentored us since the beginning. The wise men who raised and nurtured us, listened to us in times of need and guided us to the right path. Whoever that father figure is in your life, we encourage you to do something special for him this Father’s Day, June 18.

We asked dads from our Detroit headquarters what they want for Father’s Day and what this holiday means to them. Read their Father’s Day hints below.

Why did you pick this gift?

I picked the E/W Messenger bag as I really cannot imagine a cooler dad-friendly dad-goods bag. No joke. These days, I need all of the help being fashionable while being functional I can get, and this backpack absolutely cries that.

What does Father’s Day mean to you?

My dad asked for nearly nothing for himself—all he wanted was for his kids to do well for themselves and be happy. Father’s Day to me is that one day a year when we stop, for just a moment, letting life distract us as it does daily, and bring that focus to that unsung hero of our lives that taught us how to bring balance to our bikes, checkbooks and lives.

Why did you pick this gift?

I chose the Shinola Large Carryall because I have three daughters who live out of state, so it will be a great overnight bag for when I go spend a weekend with them.

What does Father’s Day mean to you?

Father’s Day to me is a special day that all fathers get to be shown how much they are loved and appreciated by their kids.

Why did you pick this gift?

I work in watch design, so I’m a bit biased, but the Shinola item I really have my eye on is the new Bedrock Watch with the blue sunray dial. This watch has so many cool details, like the sculpted lightning bolt logo, the hour index design, and the dial is such a deep, beautiful blue. And the 42mm size is really comfortable on my wrist.

What does Father’s Day mean to you?

Father’s Day is always fun in our house—my son is 9 and my daughter is 5, so they still get really excited. Being a Dad is tough, but super fun at the same time. Before we had kids, I never could have imagined how nice it feels when two little people wake you up at the crack of dawn on a Sunday, with smiles on their faces, and your favorite breakfast.

Why did you pick this gift?

You never know when you’re out and about if you’ll need a tool to get the job done! The Shinola + Leatherman Multitool is compact enough to be with me at all times, and the variety of tools are really useful.

What does Father’s Day mean to you?

Father’s Day is the day to celebrate fatherhood with my son. Not only have I taken a role in raising my son, but that I’m here to provide encouragement, discipline, and love that is unconditional.

Why did you choose this gift?

As a new dad, I’m spending a lot more time walking around, indoors and out, trying to soothe my daughter to sleep. And with the few extra pounds I managed to gain during my wife’s pregnancy, I wouldn’t half mind having the Double Stitch Belt to keep the ole’ britches up. Last thing a new dad wants to do is set down his daughter to pull up his pants!

What does Father’s Day mean to you?

For the past 20 years, my family has taken my dad to the Motor Muster at the Greenfield Village. It’s time to get out of the house, listen to some of my dad’s stories about the cars he used to own, and be outside. This will be first time I’ll be a father on Father’s Day, so I’m excited to spend the day with my dad and my daughter, looking at cars and appreciating my growing family.
