A JOURNAL BY SHINOLA DEDICATED TO JOY OF CRAFT

From The Big Apple To The Motor City

BY Taylor Rebhan

Meet recent Detroit transplant Bridget Russo. She singlehandedly coordinates Shinola’s marketing efforts from our company headquarters on the fifth floor of the historic Argonaut building.

A dyed-in-the-wool New Yorker, Bridget moved to the Motor City from Tribeca New York last year because she believes it would be insincere to direct the company’s marketing efforts from anywhere else. Makes sense to us, especially when you look back on her career. She’s made a name for herself in the fashion industry for pursuing projects she finds inspiring, and which hopefully inspire change in the world. This attitude took her across Africa during her time working with Ali Hewson and Bono at Edun, a company committed to reducing poverty on the African continent through increased trade. She also ran her own consulting company, called Passion Projects Consulting, which focused on fashion ventures with a philanthropic angle.

Although some of her New York friends thought she was crazy to join Shinola, the chance to be part of a new American manufacturing company based in Detroit was too enticing to pass up. Though the Motor City faces some serious challenges, she feels a buzz in this town that reminds her of New York a few decades ago. In today’s Detroit, anything is possible, and she’s excited to see what direction it takes as entrepreneurs, artists, and other creative thinkers continue to move here and collaborate.
