That's why nearly all the leather for our watch bands comes from Horween, a company whose legacy of handcrafting fine leather stretches back to 1905, when Isidore Horween established his first tannery on Division Street in Chicago, IL. In the century since their founding, most American tanneries have either closed their doors or moved operations overseas—but Horween still handcrafts their leather on the banks of the Chicago River, and they are one of the last companies in America to still undertake the full production process in-house, from raw unprocessed hides to fully finished leather.
Once the leather is produced—a process that can take a year or longer—it's shipped to Hadley-Roma's production facility in Largo, FL, where each watch strap passes through eleven separate departments, from manual dye cutting to hand stitching. It's a labor intensive and time consuming process, relying on the skilled hands of artisans, many of whom have been active in their trade for decades. And the end result—a watch strap as durable as it is beautiful—clearly shows why Hadley-Roma today is the last remaining watch strap maker in the United States.
